Let's face it, WordPress ain't what it used to be. It started out as a simple CMS but now it's a bloated funhouse that requires days of training, many plug-ins and offers a bewildering choice of billions of themes that never quite fit your needs. It's a lot of work to get a site going and to keep it running. And don't get me started on that f*cking block editor.
We used to have alternatives like CMSimple, GetSimple and several others, but those are no longer maintained or they have developed their own quirks and bloat.
Enter PubliShit, the no-database super simple micro site! Here's what it offers:
- lets you write pages in html or markdown, publish concepts when ready
- designate posts as static pages that show up in a menu
- has 'recent posts' and 'archive' pages
- comes with pagination and a basic image cropper/resizer/library
- create and add templates manually, but with versioning. Includes custom search and 404 pages
- add custom blocks to your template (for instance: a disclaimer or Google analytics)
- add a masthead to your site
- add an image to your post or page
- download a full database of the entire site, code and all
And that's it! No plugins, no database, blazing fast! Data is stored in JSON files. You're up and running in minutes. Sure, you need to know html and css. You can't just swipe a free template someone else made. No comment section, either. So what? You set it up once and then you have all the convenience of a simple CMS to publish blog posts with images. What more could you want?
PubliShit is free to use. And if it needs fixing, just ask your local, friendly LLM.
